Ceremonial christening of the LNG Multi-Purpose Patrol Vessel RÜGEN

Innovative technology for demanding missions
Stralsund, March 18, 2025 – The General Customs Directorate today christened the LNG multi-purpose vessel RÜGEN, built by Fr. Fassmer GmbH & Co. KG, in a festive ceremony. The 67-meter-long ship was developed by Fassmer in close consultation with the customer. With a top speed of over 23 knots and an innovative LNG propulsion system, the RÜGEN sets new standards in the field of modern and fast government vessels
“Today's christening of the RÜGEN is a significant milestone for this challenging project,” said Jan Oskar Henkel, Managing Director of Fassmer, at the ceremony. “Close cooperation with the General Customs Directorate has made it possible to build a ship that sets new standards in the field of fast government vessels while also meeting the highest environmental requirements.”
After intensive sea trials and comprehensive simulation training for the crew, the RÜGEN is now ready for service. The ship will perform control and surveillance tasks and support the Central Command for Maritime Emergencies in emergencies.
With the completion and handover of the RÜGEN, Fassmer once again underscores its role as a leading manufacturer of modern special-purpose ships and a partner for sustainable maritime solutions.
