Collaboration between ABEKING & RASMUSSEN and FASSMER

Ocean Going Research Vessel

Ocean Going Research Vessel

On December 14, the keel was laid for the first joint project between ABEKING & RASMUSSEN (A&R) and FASSMER – a 105-meter hydrographic vessel.

Following the recent successful delivery of two minehunters to the Indonesian Navy, A&R was awarded an additional contract in December for the construction of the new hydrographic vessel. Since the ship’s design is based on a proven Fassmer concept, the project has been a joint effort from the very beginning. While A&R, as the prime contractor, is responsible for meeting the client’s requirements regarding delivery, local value creation, and technology transfer, FASSMER is in charge of the vessel’s design and construction.

The newbuild is designed to support a wide range of research activities in the world’s largest archipelagic state. In addition, it will strengthen search and rescue (SAR) capabilities in both Indonesian and international waters.

The client is the Indonesian Hydrographic Institute Bantu Hidro-Oseanografi (BHO), and the vessel will be operated by the Indonesian Navy. Delivery is scheduled for December 2025.

The strong partnership between the two family-owned shipyards forms the foundation for offering selected projects together for both the German and international markets in the future.
