Berne/Stralsund, July 16, 2026: Fr. Fassmer GmbH & Co. KG will build the four hulls for the German Navy’s SAMSe (mod) training boats at its new shipyard in Stralsund. With this decision, the company is strengthening the shipbuilding site it took over earlier this year while making strategic use of its production capacities for one of its current newbuild projects.
The hulls of all four vessels, including a substantial part of the structural outfitting, will be constructed in Stralsund. The boats will then be transferred under their own power to Motzen, where final outfitting, commissioning and delivery will take place.
Construction of the first hull is scheduled to begin in autumn 2026. The fourth and final hull is expected to leave the production hall in Stralsund in early 2029.
The decision to build the vessels in Stralsund was made deliberately, taking advantage of the site's existing infrastructure and production capabilities. Its spacious production halls and building areas allow parts of the four-vessel construction programme to be carried out in parallel, ensuring efficient workflows throughout the entire production phase. At the same time, the project further increases the utilisation of the Stralsund site and underlines the Fassmer Group’s commitment to shipbuilding in Germany.
“By building the four hulls in Stralsund, we are making targeted use of the strengths of our new shipyard for a demanding naval project,” said Jan Oskar Henkel, Managing Director at Fassmer. “The existing infrastructure and on-site production capacities provide ideal conditions for delivering this series of vessels efficiently and economically.”
The project will further increase the workload at the Stralsund site. Over the past few months, Fassmer has already recruited additional employees there, with further hires planned.
The four training boats are being built as part of the German Navy’s Sea-Based Training and Sea Trials (Modified) programme (SAMSe (mod)). Fassmer was awarded the contract by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) in February 2026. Delivery of the first vessel is scheduled for the end of 2028.
