The "CLUPEA“ operates in the North and Baltic Seas. Its main area of operation is the Baltic Sea in the waters around the island of Rügen and her home port Rostock.
The vessel surveys the condition of and changes in marine ecosystems and fish stocks in order to define admissible catch quantities, research the influence of marine pollution on fish stocks, draw up ecotoxicological assessments of cycles of matter, and record hydrographic data. Special focus of the Research carried onboard Clupea is the development of ecological and stock-friendly catching methods.
As her tasks demands, Solea has been equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including fish finding echosounders, a trawl and catch-control system, three trawl winches, two net drums, a hanger and introduction winch, deck crane, living fish well, various other pieces of fishing equipment, a fish lab with modern laboratory equipment.
