The 38m sounding vessel “Grimmershörn” is operated by the German Waterways and Shipping Office as a sea-going surveying vessel and operates in the waters of the outer and lower river Elbe, taking single or multi-beam soundings of the riverbed.
Depending on the sea state, these operations (e.g. longitudinal soundings, soundings at 90° to the current) can be carried out at a speed of up to 13 knots.
